Former Bollywood actress Somy Ali, who is currently running her NGO No More Tears in the US, took to Instagram to share a throwback post of her 1994 film Anth. The film recently completed 32-years, and she wanted the world to know.
She shared some old stills from the film, including a frame from one of its action scenes, a shot of the trophy itself, the film’s poster, and a graphic from the 40th Annual Filmfare Awards. The text on the image read, “Celebrating 32 years of this black beauty Filmfare trophy received from non other than Sunil Shetty for our film ANTH released on 10-6-1994 as BEST ACTION DIRECTOR.”
In the caption Somy got more personal. She wrote, “This #tbt is dedicated to my fav action king, @rdxcinemacompany and, of course, Suniel. What I truly appreciated about this film is that Ravi ji kept me throughout the action sequences along with Suniel despite the fact that in the 90’s era that was solely the male lead’s territory.”

She continued, “You deserve this award a million times more for depicting respect to a female lead in that era. I thank you, our producer, Ashok Honda, our director @sanjay.khanna and my acting school buddy, Suniel, for including me in those adventurous endeavors. #mumbaidiaries❤️ #anth #somyali #90’s”
Anth released on June 10, 1994, with Suniel Shetty as the lead actor. More than three decades on, Somy Ali’s post is a small but warm reminder of how much work used to go into a film’s action scenes, and the people behind the camera who rarely got their due credit at the time. For her, revisiting those photographs seems to have brought back not just the memory of an award, but of an entire team that, in her words, made those “adventurous endeavors” possible.
