Exploring her softer, more vulnerable, and romantic side has been really exciting as an actor: Nidhi Shetty on her character in Anupamaa

Nidhi Shetty, who is seen as Prerna in Deepa Shahi and Rajan Shahi’s Anupamaa, which is being produced under their banner Shahi Productions Pvt. Ltd., believes as her character grew up without a family, she deals with matters with more maturity and patience. But having said that, while trying to make everyone happy, she doesn’t lose the essence of who she truly is.

“She’s a hardworking and independent girl who has always focused on building a life for herself through her work. Even when she faced heartbreak and setbacks, she chose to channel her energy into her career and keep moving forward,” she said.

“When family expectations and personal happiness come into conflict, Prerna tries to handle the situation with maturity and patience. She believes in respecting her loved ones while also staying true to her feelings and what makes her happy,” she added.

Asked what love means to her personally, Nidhi draws a distinction between herself and the character she plays. She said, “For me, love is about feeling safe, respected, heard, and understood. It’s about having someone who supports you through every phase of life and accepts you for who you are.”

“In that sense, I do relate to Prerna. However, Prerna tends to love very selflessly and often puts others before herself. While that’s a beautiful quality, I believe it’s equally important to maintain your individuality and love yourself too. A healthy relationship should allow both people to grow together while still being themselves,” she added.

For her as a performer, this chapter has opened up something she has been waiting to explore. She said, “The most enjoyable part has been seeing Prerna finally smile and experience happiness after everything she’s been through. She’s faced loneliness, heartbreak, and disappointment for so long that it’s nice to portray a phase where she feels hopeful again.”

“Exploring her softer, more vulnerable, and romantic side has been really exciting as an actor because audiences are getting to see a completely different side of her,” she added.

What she thinks will resonate most with viewers comes down to something simple and recognizable. She said, “I think audiences will connect with the fact that their relationship wasn’t forced or rushed. It grew naturally from friendship and emotional support. Ansh was there for Prerna when she felt lost and betrayed, and he never judged her. Their connection is built on trust, understanding, and genuine care for one another.”

“I think people will relate to the idea that sometimes the best relationships come from the person who stands by your side when you need them the most,” Prerna ended.
