Priyanshi Yadav steps into Tu Ya Koi Nahin carrying a character who feels unmistakably of this moment. As Maira in Ishika Shahi’s Directors Kut Production show on YouTube, she plays someone messy, passionate, and deeply human, and from the way she talks about it, the role got under her skin from the very first narration.
The title drew her in before the story even began, and what she heard only made the decision easier. She said, “The title itself felt very intense and emotional, and when I heard the story, it immediately felt like a story of today’s generation. I could relate to the emotions, the relationships, and the situations. Everything felt very real and authentic. I could feel every emotion while listening to the narration, and that’s what made me say yes to the project.”
Maira is not a straightforward character to pin down, and Priyanshi doesn’t try to simplify her. She said, “Rebellious, loyal, and hot-headed. Maira is a Gen Z girl who’s deeply in love. She’s immature in many ways and often lets her emotions lead her decisions, but at the same time she’s fiercely loyal to the people she loves. She makes mistakes and reacts impulsively, but her heart is always in the right place.”
At its core, the show is asking a question that runs through every relationship: How far does love actually go? She said, “I think the central theme is love. The story is all about the madness of love, how far people can go for someone they truly love, and the choices, sacrifices, and emotions that come with it.”
Working on a digital production also meant leaving behind the grammar of traditional television entirely. She said, “It felt very different because there were no loud, over-the-top dramatic moments.” Everything was kept extremely real and relatable. The performances, dialogues, and situations felt very natural, which made the entire experience refreshing as an actor.”
One scene in particular demanded something difficult from her, not action, but imagination. She said, “There was a scene where Ansh gets shot. It was emotionally very challenging because I had to imagine everything in my head: the fear, the panic, seeing someone you love hurt, imagining his head bleeding, and not knowing what would happen next. Living through those emotions mentally was quite painful and definitely pushed me as an actor.”
The ease between her and her co-actor came from something more deliberate than accident. She said, “I think we were very professional, supportive, and cooperative as co-actors, which helped our on-screen chemistry. Off-screen, we genuinely enjoyed shooting together and shared a good friendship, so that comfort naturally reflected in our scenes as well.”
What separates Tu Ya Koi Nahin from other shows in the same space, she believes, comes down to how seriously Ishika takes the truth of every scene. She said, “I think it’s Ishika’s passion for scripts and storytelling. She pays incredible attention to emotions and always wants everything to feel real and believable. That honesty in storytelling makes the show feel very different from many other romance dramas.”
For everyone about to watch, she leaves one thought. She said, “I would just say, watch it with an open heart. Tu Ya Koi Nahin is not just a love story; it’s an emotional journey filled with relationships, choices, heartbreak, loyalty, and the madness that comes with loving someone deeply.”
