Music is like a soundtrack for different moments: Dr Deepti Bhatnagar on World Music Day

As the world celebrates World Music Day on June 21, Dr Deepti Bhatnagar, who is a wellness expert and also the mother of the child actress Aurra Bhatnagar, took a moment to talk about her relationship with music, the songs she keeps returning to, and the sounds that shape her everyday life.

On the role music plays in her life, she said, “Music is like a soundtrack for different moments. It can help with focus, relaxation, motivation, or simply make everyday routines more enjoyable.”

Speaking about the kind of music she enjoys the most, she said, “I appreciate a wide range of music, pop, classical, indie, electronic, film scores, jazz, and Bollywood. Great melodies and meaningful lyrics tend to stand out regardless of genre.”

Songs like Ilahi and Jiya Re instantly uplift her mood. But asked if there is a particular genre she is most drawn to and why, she said, “Film music is especially fascinating because it blends storytelling with emotion. I also enjoy instrumental and classical music for concentration, and upbeat pop for a quick energy boost.”

Talking about how often she listens to Bollywood music, she said, “Bollywood offers an incredible variety, from soulful melodies and romantic ballads to dance tracks and devotional music, so there’s something for almost every mood.”

Her favourite Bollywood singer was difficult to choose, and she said, “Sonu Nigam stands out for his emotional expression and versatility. Whether it’s a soft romantic song or a powerful ballad, he brings authenticity to every performance.”

As for her current playlist, Dr. Deepti said, “It’s a mix of ‘Sajni’, ‘Kesariya’, ‘Ilahi’, ‘Jiya Re’, and the ‘Kalank’ title song.”
