Inspired by Ganga Mai Ki Betiyan, Zee TV launches ‘Badhai Ho Beti Hui Hai’ on National Girl Child Day

On the occasion of National Girl Child Day, Zee TV unveils a powerful and emotionally stirring film titled ‘Badhai Ho Beti Hui Hai’, created to celebrate the birth of a girl child and challenge long-standing societal biases around gender preference.

The film draws inspiration from the channel’s core belief in their show, Ganga Mai Ki Betiyan, where a woman is thrown out of her home for not giving birth to a son, yet rises with strength and resilience to single-handedly raise her three daughters. This belief strongly reinforces the idea that the birth of a girl child should be celebrated, not questioned a thought that shaped the very foundation of this campaign right from the scripting and ideation stage.

‘Badhai Ho Beti Hui Hai’ opens with the birth of Dhara, the third daughter in her family. After two daughters, her parents were hoping for a son, and Dhara’s arrival is met with visible disappointment from her father. His unfulfilled expectations slowly turn into emotional distance, as he begins to ignore her presence and deny her the affection, encouragement, and opportunities she deserves. Growing up, Dhara is forced to use her sisters’ old belongings, never receiving new books or even a school uniform of her own silent symbols of the neglect she endures simply for being a girl child.

As the story unfolds, destiny presents a defining moment. Dhara visits her father’s saree shop in Banaras, where he struggles to communicate with a young couple due to his limited English skills. The couple mocks him, creating an awkward and humiliating situation. Stepping in with confidence and grace, Dhara communicates fluently in English, engages the customers, and successfully convinces them to make a purchase. That moment becomes a turning point.

Her father is left stunned not just by her capability, but by the realisation of his own prejudice. Overcome with guilt and emotion, he breaks down, recognising that Dhara is no less capable, no less deserving, and no less powerful than a son. It is a deeply human moment of awakening, reflection, and redemption.

Through ‘Badhai Ho Beti Hui Hai’, Zee TV delivers a strong and clear social message:
A girl child is not a burden, a compromise, or a second choice, she is strength, intelligence, confidence, and limitless potential.

The film serves as a reminder that discrimination often begins at home, and true change begins when mindsets shift within families. By spotlighting everyday realities and emotional truths, Zee TV continues its commitment to creating socially relevant content that sparks conversations and inspires change beyond the screen.

This National Girl Child Day, Zee TV urges audiences to not just celebrate daughters, but to believe in them, invest in them, and empower them because every girl child deserves equal love, opportunity, and respect.
