Actor Amal Sehrawat believes in keeping life simple when he is away from the spotlight. While acting remains his primary focus, the actor says that spending time with family and friends, working out, travelling and exploring creative interests help him unwind and stay connected with himself. Opening up about his life beyond work, Amal shares, “I’m actually quite simple when I’m not working. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, listening to music, working out and travelling whenever I get the opportunity. I also enjoy those completely unplanned conversations with close friends where you can just switch off and be yourself.”
For Amal, fitness has gradually evolved into much more than a hobby. He says it has become an important part of his lifestyle, while his interests in fashion, photography and content creation allow him to explore different forms of creative expression. “Fitness has become a lifestyle for me rather than just a hobby. I also enjoy exploring fashion, photography and creating content because they allow me to express a different side of my personality. I’m always looking for ways to keep learning and experimenting creatively,” he says.
When it comes to travelling, Japan features prominently on Amal’s wishlist. The actor is fascinated by the country’s unique combination of tradition, modernity and natural beauty and hopes to experience it beyond the usual tourist attractions. “Japan is definitely high on my list. The combination of its culture, architecture, food, technology and incredible landscapes really fascinates me. I would love to experience it beyond the typical tourist itinerary,” he shares.
Amal also believes that travelling has a direct influence on an artist’s creativity. According to him, stepping outside one’s comfort zone and experiencing different cultures can help an actor develop a deeper understanding of people and life. “Absolutely. Travel takes you out of your comfort zone. You meet different people, observe different cultures and see life from perspectives that may be completely different from your own. As an actor, I think observation is extremely important, and travelling gives you endless things to observe,” he explains.
The actor is also conscious of using his platform for causes that can make a difference. He believes that those who have the ability to contribute should make an effort to do so, even if it is in a small way. “Yes, I believe that if you have the ability to contribute, you should. I’ve always felt strongly about supporting causes where even a small effort can make someone’s life a little better. I would also like to use my social media presence more meaningfully to create awareness and encourage people to contribute to genuine causes,” says Amal.
Interestingly, observation is also something Amal considers one of his hidden talents. He says he naturally notices expressions, body language and small details in people, something he feels has helped him as an actor. “I think I’m quite good at reading people and observing small details. Maybe it’s the actor in me! I tend to notice expressions, body language and little things that people sometimes don’t realise they’re doing. I think that observation also helps me with my craft,” he says.
While acting remains his priority, Amal is open to exploring other creative roles within the entertainment industry in the future. He expresses an interest in production and direction but wants to step into those spaces only when he feels adequately prepared. “Definitely. I would love to explore production at some point, and direction is something I find fascinating. But I would want to enter those spaces when I feel I have the right story and enough experience to do justice to it. For now, acting remains my primary focus,” he says.
When asked about the one thing he never leaves home without, Amal has a simple and relatable answer. “My phone, obviously!” he says with a laugh, before adding, “But beyond that, probably my sunglasses. They have become almost a part of my everyday look. And if I’m travelling, I never forget my headphones.”
Maintaining a balance between work and personal life is equally important to the actor. Amal says that consciously disconnecting from work helps him recharge, while fitness and spending time with loved ones keep him grounded. “I try to consciously disconnect when I’m not working. Fitness helps me stay disciplined, while spending time with people I’m close to keeps me grounded. I also believe you don’t always need to be productive—sometimes doing absolutely nothing is important too,” he says.
For Amal, the perfect day off is all about slowing down and enjoying the moment without constantly checking the clock. “A late, relaxed breakfast, a good workout, some music, spending time with family or close friends and maybe driving somewhere without a fixed plan. If there’s good food involved, even better! For me, a perfect day off is one where I don’t have to look at the clock,” he concludes.
